She sure is sexy... I would guess this will break $200 easily!
If you scroll down you'll see he won't accept any bids until 10PM mountain time after he has added another 2 pics. I have never seen a listing with such a bidding restriction.
I'll be surprised if this doesn't get sold right off the bat for the "Buy it Now" price at the $450. A newer SRP member bought one in condition as nice as this for $500 on Ebay last week and sent the razor to Lynn for honing.
It is a beautiful razor no question. Actually I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for a celluloid scaled razor; I'd be too paranoid that the thing would start gassing on me a decade from now for no apparent reason and be completely ruined.
I'm watching, too, but I ain't going to bother bidding. It seems the razor market on ebay has gone insane in the last few weeks. Anything with a big name is selling for huge money.
This one is just a satinedge, but I'll bet it breaks $200 easy. It was posted as a nine day auction and has 4 days left..

I'm watching that, just to see how high the mad people go. I'm certainly not bidding.
Really. I'm not. You go right ahead.
It is not that nice,
the guy took some really nice pictures though. If you look closely you can see some slight hone wear on the spine and the gold wash has been completely removed as this razor has been cleaned up.
there also appears to be some pitting on the blade and the center pin looks loose and there is grime and gunk on the scales and in the pins. The scales are yellowed and it seems like the seller does not know straights well and is only parroting the 500 ebay auction hoping some sucker comes along.
I offered him 140.00 before he put it on ebay and he was willing to sell it to me until he saw the 500 auction.
I am by no means an expert, but to me that looked exactly the same as Bill Ellis' blog entry on celluloid rot. You notice how the tiny spots on the blade that look like they may have been pitting are all below the scales, with no pitting above?
Just a thought, I don't honestly know anything, but I'd be careful personally.
There's no gold wash on this razor in general, but it does seem that there is some spotting which is not merely dust speckles but corrosio
Cheers
Ivo
There is a bit of a remnant of the gold wash on the tail it seems. Since this seller is claiming it's NOS it makes me wonder about the veracity of his other claims.
What, did the lister yank the razor back? Auction is already closed with the reason being "reserve not met". Is that why he had the most unusual stipulation that bidding could not start until tonight? I'm confused. I most certainly was not going to bid on this one but was curious at how crazy it was probably going to go.
Oh, and I don't know many NOS razors that have significant rust at the pivot pin area. To me that means.........water which to me means............the razor has been used.
Personally, although there are many interesting celluloid scales on old razors, no way would I pay a significant amount of money for any of them since it would be my luck that the celluloid would start to rot uncontrollably in the future and end up being worthless or, worse yet damage the blade too!
I saw it on craigs list and sent him an e-mail. He was selling it for 160.00, I offered 140 and he said ok. I was waiting for a paypal request that he said he was going to send on Saturday (three days after agreeing to sell it) when he sent me an e-mail saying that considering how much the last one went for (500) he could not sell it to me for 140, sorry.
This is by far the weirdest auction I have ever seen!!!!!
He relisted it again, lol.

And look at the pitting on that baby. :(
400$...
No way Jose.
I bet he got smacked by eBay for how the auction was set up initially with the restricted bidding and posting about adding pics. No clue, just a guess.
I still thik he's nutz. I just noticed it looks like the back scale is cracked by the center pin and it looks like the pics now show less blade detail (pitting and rot). I may be a very nice item and I would actually pay big for a mint one, but that doens't look to be it. I'd love to get one someday....
So much for NOS.....
Sad part is if someone pays big dollar for it, it will just skew the prices even further putting one out of my reach even further :td I wish him the best of luck though.
Maybe I'll find someone with a bunch of them and willing to work out a deal..... barter maybe since I am broke!
Allen
True he did not state NOS but it does say original condition, lol. I dont think he knows much about razors.
Oh well. As soon as the Sweeny Todd fascination wears off, the prices will be back down to what they should be and people won't be selling $30 razors for $100.
My point is he is trying for prices befitting a NOS example based on what they have been going for, not what is actually there.
I'm just peeved I was at work and missed a reasonable deal:

Not perfect, but much more in-line in my limited opinion.

That was a good deal I saw that and a few other DD's go for the right prices in the last 2 days
I've got two DD goldedges and they are my favorites. No other razor I own is as sharp and comfortable. BUT although I would dearly love a wonderedge - no way would I pay that much. My most expensive one was about $65.
So far the only razors I've been seeing on eBay that appeal to me have been bid up to silly prices. Unless I see something really great I'll confine my buying to flea markets and antique stores.
There are actually reasons that the DD'S are so popular, I mean besides Lynn's video....They do hold a great edge, they do hone up very easily, and they do give a very smooth shave, and heck they even look good doing it :) There is nothing wrong with the razors, just the prices that they command...... When I was looking for a Wonderedge and a Reaper I was told countless times to buy a TI instead, now look at the threads on our forum about how bad the QC is at TI. Sooner, rather than later, I will pop for a Ti then I'll get the opportunity to judge for myself.
This is about the prices that they were going for prior to Sweeney Todd
and this one would have gone for more except, the way they advertised it, and they don't take Paypal ( I get Bid shy without Paypal)

Well lookey here. Things are getting closer to normal with the wonderedges. Granted those who don't use paypal make less in the actuion but I think that guy is in for a shock.
I think sweeney todd is changing peoples lives...I don't know much about razors, but some of the stuff that they are selling at these exorbitant prices are ridiculous. I hope this ebay frenzy dies down so we get some reasonable prices
